About BatchJoy
Free recipes for cooking once and eating well all month.
BatchJoy is a free website of freezer recipes and sauces, 200 in all, grouped into collections such as IBS-friendly and high protein. They come from three cookbooks: BatchJoy, the IBS edition and Sauces. There are no sign-ups, no paywall and no adverts, and the books are free to download as PDFs.
How the recipes work
Every meal recipe is written as one big batch that you cool, portion into a silicone tray and freeze in 70g blocks. Three blocks make a dinner for one adult. Sauces freeze in 30ml ice-cube trays (a few in 15ml cubes) and go straight into a pan from frozen. The full method is in How freezer blocks work andHow sauce cubes work.
Each recipe lists its ingredients by weight, a numbered method, how many blocks or cubes it makes, the cost per block or cube, and a nutrition table. Spice is rated from 1 (no heat) to 5 (very hot); the IBS-friendly recipes contain no chilli.
About the numbers
Nutrition, costs and yields are estimates. Nutrition is estimated per block or cube from the ingredients, and your figures will vary with the brands you buy and how much the dish reduces. Costs are an estimate per block or cube and will change with prices and shops.
Diet labels
- VG vegan, V vegetarian, GF gluten-free, DF dairy-free and NUTS contains nuts or peanuts.
- Gluten-free labels assume tamari in place of soy sauce, gluten-free oats and gluten-free stock cubes. Allergens are listed from the ingredients. Always check the labels on what you buy.
IBS-friendly recipes
The IBS-friendly collection gathers gentle recipes with no chilli and no tomato base. This is general guidance, not medical advice. IBS triggers vary from person to person, so talk to your GP or a registered dietitian before changing your diet. Read more in Eating well with IBS.
